On 22nd August 1787, the first successful trial of steam boat was made by John Fitch on the river Delaware in the United States. The steam boat was of forty five foot. A larger vessel was built by Fitch in 1788 to carry carriage and passengers between Philadelphia in Pennsylvania and Burlington in New Jersey. In the year 1807, the first practical steam boat called the Clermont was built by an American Robert Fulton.
