In 1884, Paul Gottilieb Nipkov patented the first electromechanical television. In 1923, the first ancestor of the electric scanning television camera known as iconoscope was patented by Vladimir Zworykin. The first public demonstration of television was held in January 1926 by a Scottish engineer John Logie Baird. The first working television system with electronic scanning was made by Philo Farnsworth in 1927. The first mechanical color television was demonstrated by Baird in 1928.
