In the late nineteenth century, German scientist Justus von Liebig invented marmite accidentally when he discovered that yeast of brewer could be bottled, concentrated and even eaten. The Gilmour family in the year 1902 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire in England formed The Marmite Food Extract Company. Their chief product was Marmite. In 1908, the company got patent to sell its products in Australia and New Zealand.
